Established in 1961, the airport has grown to become the busiest in Florida and the seventh busiest in the United States, handling over 57 million passengers in 2025. The airport's IATA code, MCO, originates from its former identity as McCoy Air Force Base, which was decommissioned in 1975. The airport features three terminals and four runways, accommodating a diverse range of domestic and international flights.
